After nearly two years of uncertainty, the former Wells College campus has a potential buyer, according to The Citizen. The Hiawatha Institute for Indigenous Knowledge won acceptance of its $12.5 million offer to purchase the Wells College property in Aurora.
The deal triggers a 60-day due diligence period while the institute studies the campus. Leaders plan to use about 20% of the space for an Indigenous university, with the rest eyed for housing and revenue-generating uses.
The proposal includes workforce housing, community partnerships, and a new music school honoring Joanne Shenandoah. Final plans hinge on inspections and financing before the sale closes.
