Canandaigua Town Board to talk grants, stormwater agreement tonight

The Canandaigua Town Board is scheduled to hold its annual organizational meeting and regular monthly meeting tonight with a full agenda that includes appointments, adoption of policies, grant-related actions, and intermunicipal agreements.

The organizational meeting is set for 5 p.m., followed immediately by the regular Town Board meeting at 6 p.m., both in the Onnalinda Room at Town Hall and via Zoom, according to the agenda packets.

At the organizational meeting, the board is expected to complete a series of annual actions required at the start of the year. These include designation of the 2026 town meeting schedule and holidays, appointment of town board standing committees and citizen advisory committees, and designation of official newspapers, radio stations, and depositories for town funds.

The board is also scheduled to confirm and acknowledge several appointments. Supervisor Don Cotter is slated to designate Leif HerrGesell as town historian, name himself as budget officer, and appoint John Casey as deputy town supervisor. The Highway Superintendent is expected to designate Chris Lietz as deputy highway superintendent. Additional resolutions address town clerk appointments, standard workday certifications for the town clerk and highway/water superintendent, appointment of town court clerks, and execution of annual service agreements with Mercy Flight, Canandaigua Emergency Squad, and Pine Bank Cemetery.

The regular meeting agenda that follows includes reports from town officials and department heads, including the highway and water superintendent, assessor, historian, town clerk, development staff, and parks and recreation. The town clerk’s report notes revenues of $174,859.77 collected in December 2025 and more than $2 million collected during calendar year 2025.

Among the legislative items before the board is a resolution approving an updated intermunicipal agreement and continued participation in the Ontario–Wayne Stormwater Coalition. The revised agreement would extend the town’s participation through Jan. 31, 2031, include the City of Canandaigua as a coalition member, and maintain the town’s annual membership fee at $5,000.

The board is also expected to authorize the highway superintendent to surplus and auction several pieces of GPS equipment that have reached the end of their useful life, with proceeds directed to the town’s sale of equipment account.

Parks and recreation matters feature prominently on the agenda. The board is scheduled to consider accepting a proposal from MRB Group for $2,500 in grant writing services related to resubmitting the town’s application for a New York State Municipal Parks and Recreation grant for the Onanda Uplands Park Redevelopment project. Related resolutions would express formal support for the 2026 grant application and reaffirm the town’s Parks and Recreation Master Plan. The board will also consider a resolution recognizing Mark MacNeil for his service as chair of the Parks and Recreation Committee.

Additional items include designation of a voting delegate for the 2026 Association of Towns annual meeting, acceptance of a surety payment, approval of minutes from a December meeting, payment of bills and abstracts, and a discussion item related to the town’s July 4 event.

The agenda allows for public comment during multiple points in the meeting and includes the possibility of an executive session to discuss matters related to real property, where publicity could affect value.
