MacBride sworn in as Ontario County DA

A packed courtroom marked a leadership change in Ontario County as Jason MacBride officially took the oath as district attorney.

MacBride was sworn in Dec. 30 during a ceremony at the Ontario County Courthouse in Canandaigua. The Honorable Russel Coon of the Town of Canadice Town Court administered the oath at 2 p.m. .

Family members, colleagues, friends, and community supporters filled the courthouse as MacBride formally assumed the role of the county’s chief prosecutor.

R. Michael Tantillo also delivered remarks, reflecting on the responsibilities of the office and voicing confidence in MacBride’s leadership.

During his own remarks, MacBride thanked the community and emphasized his commitment to justice.

“This office exists to serve the public — to seek justice, protect victims, and uphold the rule of law,” MacBride said. “Every case deserves careful attention, thoughtful consideration, and a commitment to doing what is right. I am honored by this responsibility and remain dedicated to working collaboratively with law enforcement, the courts, and our community to ensure public safety and justice for all.” .

MacBride has served as acting district attorney since Dec. 15, overseeing daily operations and continuing the office’s work.

As district attorney, he said his focus will include accountability, transparency, and professionalism, while ensuring justice is pursued fairly throughout Ontario County.

The Ontario County District Attorney’s Office said it will continue prioritizing public safety, victims’ rights, and the fair administration of justice.
