The Buffalo Bills made a change Monday following their narrow Week 17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, parting ways with kicker Michael Badgley and leaving questions at the position heading into the regular-season finale.
Badgley was released from the practice squad after a costly missed extra point in the second half of Buffalo’s 13-12 defeat. The attempt was blocked by Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter and proved pivotal in a game decided by a single point. It marked Badgley’s second missed extra point in as many weeks.
The 30-year-old had only recently joined the Bills after starter Matt Prater suffered a quad injury. Badgley appeared in two games during his brief stint in Buffalo.
Prater has not been placed on injured reserve, a move that would have sidelined him for at least four games, suggesting the team initially believed he would be able to return before the postseason. However, if Prater is unable to go in Week 18, the Bills will need to add another kicker on short notice with the playoffs looming.
Last week, the Bills held workouts for Younghoe Koo, Gavin Stewart, and Maddox Trujillo but stuck with Badgley for another week. All three kickers remain unsigned and could still be options.
The Bills close out the regular season Sunday against the New York Jets with a 4:25 p.m. kickoff, a game that could mark the final contest at the current Highmark Stadium.
