The New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) has announced its Fall 2025 Scholar-Athlete teams and the total number of individual student-athletes recognized statewide for their academic excellence this season.
A total of 4,148 teams earned Scholar-Athlete recognition this fall, while an impressive 53,814 student-athletes were named individual Scholar-Athletes after achieving a marking-period academic average of 90 or above.
To qualify as a Scholar-Athlete team, the average grade of 75% of the team’s roster must be 90.00 or higher for the designated marking period. Teams meeting the criteria receive official NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete certificates. Individual honorees receive Scholar-Athlete pins commemorating their achievement.
“The Scholar-Athlete program remains one of the most meaningful recognitions we provide as an Association,” said NYSPHSAA Executive Director Dr. Robert Zayas. “The dedication shown by these student-athletes, balancing rigorous academic responsibilities with their commitments to interscholastic athletics, is truly remarkable.”
Now in its 33rd year, the Scholar-Athlete Program continues to emphasize the importance of academic excellence within education-based athletics across New York State.
A complete list of Fall 2025 Scholar-Athlete teams and the number of recognized individuals for each program is available on the NYSPHSAA website.
The Winter 2026 Scholar-Athlete submission window opens January 26, with a submission deadline of March 16, 2026 (Monday of Week #37).
