A crash triggered by an iPhone crash detection alert led deputies to arrest a Virginia man early Saturday morning in the town of Fleming.
Deputies say Isaias Presas-Reyes, 22, of North Chesterfield, Virginia, was arrested around 3:54 a.m. on December 6 after his car slammed into a culvert on West Lake Road near Buck Point Road.
When officers arrived, they found Presas-Reyes being treated by EMS for minor injuries. He refused hospital transport but agreed to field sobriety tests, which deputies say he failed. He was then taken into custody and brought to the Cayuga County Public Safety Building, where a chemical breath test showed a blood alcohol content of 0.17%, more than twice the legal limit.
Presas-Reyes was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense), operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol content of 0.08% or higher, moving from a lane unsafely, and operating a vehicle without a license.
He was issued traffic tickets and is scheduled to appear in Fleming Town Court on December 9 at 4:30 p.m..
