Wells College can move ahead with transferring its assets — including most of its $28 million endowment — after a judge denied Aurora’s last-ditch effort to intervene, according to The Citizen.
Cayuga County Judge Thomas Leone ruled that Aurora didn’t have legal standing to block the legacy agreement with Hobart and William Smith Colleges, despite the village’s concerns over historical archives.
The court approval marks a key step in Wells’ shutdown process after it closed in 2024. The campus remains unsold, but officials say the sale is needed to fully transfer funds.
