Clyde-Savannah students can now take American Sign Language to fulfill their language credit, thanks to a new program led by ASL teacher Genevieve Callejo, according to WayneTimes.com. Callejo blends her background in deaf theater with visual learning techniques, making ASL accessible and engaging for all students.
The program was launched to address a shortage of certified language teachers and to reflect the region’s strong Deaf community. Students say Callejo’s expressive, student-centered style makes the class a highlight of their day.
The district hopes to expand the program as interest grows.
