Tanner LaMagna will lead Newark’s Home for the Holidays parade this year — just months after surviving a life-changing BMX accident that captured the heart of the community.
The local teen has been named Grand Marshal for the village’s annual Lighted Parade and Christmas celebration on Saturday, November 29. Organizers say his strength and determination made the decision an easy one.
“Tanner’s strength reflects the heart of this village,” said Mayor Jonathan Taylor. “Newark is at its best when we come together like this.”
Tanner will help kick off the parade alongside announcers and later join Santa onstage in Central Park to flip the switch for the Community Tree Lighting.
A night of lights, music, and tradition
The Home for the Holidays celebration will fill downtown Newark with music, decorated trees, and glowing vehicles of all kinds starting at 4 p.m. in Central Park.
Here’s the full rundown for Saturday, November 29:
- 4:00 p.m. — Live music, decorated trees, s’mores station, and giveaways for kids
- 5:15 p.m. — Lighted Parade on Main Street
- 6:15 p.m. (approx.) — Santa arrives in Central Park
- After Santa’s arrival — Community Tree Lighting with Grand Marshal Tanner LaMagna
- Following the lighting — Community Holiday Party at the Alex Eligh Community Center
Organizers say this year’s celebration is all about togetherness, tradition, and honoring the spirit of the village — something Tanner has come to represent.
“This night is about celebrating Newark — our people, our traditions, and the joy of being together,” the committee shared.
