Brian Cannan and Kyle Bell are headed to the big stage.
The two Midlakes musicians have been selected to perform at the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Area All-State Festival on November 21 at Gates-Chili Central School.
Cannan, a member of the Class of 2028, will play French horn. Bell, from the Class of 2026, will perform on tuba. Both were accepted into the Symphonic Band, which will be conducted by Dr. Jared Chase of Nazareth University.
“We are incredibly proud of these two musicians,” said Will Hope, Secondary Band Director at Midlakes.
The festival draws top student performers from across NYSSMA’s Zone 2, which spans eight counties — including Ontario, Seneca, Wayne, Monroe, Genesee, Livingston, Orleans, and Wyoming. It’s the second-largest region in the state.
Selection to Area All-State is based on scores from NYSSMA solo evaluations and reflects months of dedicated preparation and performance.
