A 17-year-old student is facing a criminal charge after deputies say they found an unloaded rifle in his vehicle parked on school grounds at Romulus Central School.
The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office says the arrest happened Monday after the school’s resource officer was alerted to the weapon. Officials say the officer quickly secured the firearm, and no one was ever in danger.
The teen — whose name was not released due to his age — was charged with criminal possession of a weapon on school grounds. Deputies say he was processed and released to a parent.
The investigation confirmed the rifle was not loaded and no threats were made against students or staff. The sheriff’s office worked closely with school officials to ensure the situation was handled quickly and safely.
The teen is scheduled to appear in Seneca County Youth Part at a later date.
