Beginnings Credit Union celebrates new chapter with Ithaca ribbon cutting

Beginnings Credit Union officially unveiled its updated Ithaca Commons branch this week, marking the latest step in its rebrand from CFCU.

The ribbon cutting, held Wednesday at the branch on East State Street, brought together staff, local officials, and business leaders to celebrate the location’s transformation. The event was hosted in partnership with the Tompkins Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Ithaca Alliance, and was followed by a Business After Hours reception catered by Serendipity Catering.

“This was a wonderful way to personally introduce the Beginnings brand to our Commons Branch members and connect with the Ithaca community in celebrating a milestone,” said Katie Foley, vice president of marketing and sales at Beginnings.

The rebrand, first announced in April, became official on July 1. Since then, the credit union has been working branch by branch to roll out updated signage, design, and branding elements.

Tompkins Chamber President Peggy Coleman and Downtown Ithaca Alliance CEO Nan Rohrer were among the featured speakers. Michael D’Angelo, vice president of member experience, praised the enthusiasm surrounding the change. “I can honestly say that the level of energy and excitement from members and staff about the Beginnings rebrand is unmatched,” he said.

Founded in 1953, Beginnings Credit Union now serves nearly 77,000 members across 15 locations. With $1.4 billion in assets, it is one of New York’s largest credit unions.

All locations are expected to complete their transition to the Beginnings brand by the end of 2025.
