Midlakes senior Aeryn Maher earns DAR Good Citizen Award

Midlakes High School senior Aeryn Maher has been named this year’s recipient of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Good Citizen Award, a recognition given to students who embody leadership, service, dependability, and patriotism.

Maher was selected from among three nominated seniors at Midlakes Secondary School. Faculty and staff first nominate students who reflect strong character and civic values. From there, the senior class votes to select the school’s DAR Good Citizen. In this case, a tie in student voting led to a tiebreaker decided by staff.

The DAR Good Citizen Award recognizes students who:

  • Demonstrate dependability, including honesty, punctuality, and loyalty.
  • Show service through courtesy and contributing to others’ well-being.
  • Exhibit leadership by taking initiative and inspiring their peers.
  • Uphold patriotism by supporting veterans, appreciating U.S. history, and strengthening their communities.

Maher, who plans to study dance and business after graduation, chose not to participate in the DAR’s optional competitive scholarship program connected to the award.

The honor is part of a long-standing DAR tradition to spotlight outstanding high school seniors across the country who lead by example in their schools and communities.
