Adirondack Prop One passes, land expansion next

New York voters approved Proposition One, clearing the way for new land to join the Adirondack Preserve, according to WSYR.

The measure retroactively legalizes past expansions at Mount Van Hoevenberg and allows the state to buy 2,500 more acres. Lawmakers and the DEC will now identify which parcel to acquire.

The land must remain “forever wild” — no roads, no development — in line with constitutional protections. Officials hope the purchase wraps by year’s end.
