Walmart shutdown rumors over SNAP cuts are false

Viral TikTok videos falsely claim Walmart will “lock its doors” on Nov. 1 due to SNAP benefit cuts, but the company says stores will stay open, according to USA Today Network.

Two widely shared videos stoked fears that people losing food aid during the federal shutdown would “loot” stores, prompting closures. Walmart confirmed to Snopes that no such shutdown is happening.

While SNAP funding may run out if the government remains closed, Gov. Hochul announced $30 million in emergency state aid and joined a lawsuit demanding the USDA use its contingency funds to keep benefits going.
