Police say a 37-year-old man physically resisted officers after being caught with stolen property in Bath last week.
Sean A. Grace, of Elmira, was arrested on September 29 after officers were called to Hatfield’s Cash and Carry on Gansevoort Street for a report of shoplifting. Officers found Grace on East Washington Street with the stolen items, according to Bath Police.
While attempting to take him into custody, police say Grace resisted, resulting in a brief struggle. He was eventually detained and brought to the Bath Police Department for processing.
Grace was charged with petit larceny and resisting arrest—both Class A misdemeanors. He was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Bath Village Court at a later date.
Police noted Grace is a three-time convicted felon currently under NYS Parole supervision in Bath. He previously served five years in prison for possessing a loaded firearm, with his most recent conviction coming in 2020.
