Firefighters in Oaks Corners responded to two serious crashes this weekend — one involving a medevac helicopter and the other a head-on collision that snarled traffic.
The first crash happened Saturday night around 9 p.m. at the intersection of Route 14 and Route 318. Crews arrived to find a head-on collision with one person injured. Members from the Oaks Corners Fire Department, Phelps Ambulance, and North Seneca Ambulance responded.
Firefighters treated the patient, handled leaking fluids, disconnected car batteries, and managed traffic for about an hour. Sixteen Oaks Corners members responded, led by Chief Zach Rey.
Less than 16 hours later, the department was dispatched again — this time to the corner of County Road 6 and County Road 23 (Cross Road) around 12:24 p.m. Sunday. The crash involved four patients, one of whom was trapped, as well as a dog.

Deputies say 59-year-old Michelle Howe, of Churchville Chili, was driving west on Cross Road around 12:30 p.m. when she failed to yield at a stop sign and hit a southbound Jeep Cherokee.
The Jeep was driven by 73-year-old Regina Ware of Oswego. Both drivers had one passenger in their vehicles.
All four people were trapped and had to be pulled from the vehicles by the Oaks Corners Fire Department. One passenger suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was airlifted by Mercy Flight Central to Strong Memorial Hospital. The others were taken by ambulance to the same hospital.
Howe was ticketed for failing to yield.
