17-year-old charged after fleeing troopers in Dryden

A 17-year-old from Ithaca is facing multiple charges after fleeing from police during a late-night traffic stop in Tompkins County.

According to New York State Police, the incident began around 11 p.m. on September 20 when troopers and Tompkins County sheriff’s deputies responded to a disturbance at the Ellis Hollow Community Center on Genung Road in Dryden.

As deputies investigated, the teen left the scene in an Audi A4 and ignored commands from law enforcement. A trooper activated emergency lights and attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver refused to stop and committed several traffic violations while endangering other motorists.

The pursuit ended on Snyder Hill Road, where the teen finally stopped in a driveway. Police say he continued to resist arrest before being taken into custody by a trooper and a sheriff’s deputy.

The teen was charged with reckless driving, unlawful fleeing of a police officer in a motor vehicle (3rd degree), and resisting arrest — all misdemeanors. He was also issued multiple traffic tickets.

He was evaluated by EMS at the State Police barracks in Ithaca, issued a Family Court appearance ticket, and released to a parent.
