Yates lawmakers to start 2026 budget talks next month

Yates County legislators will kick off budget season with a two-day workshop next month to start shaping the county’s 2026 spending plan.

The special budget workshop is scheduled for October 28 at 9 a.m. in the Legislative Chambers in Penn Yan. If more time is needed, lawmakers will reconvene the following day, October 29, at the same time.

The public can attend in person at 417 Liberty Street or join online via Zoom. The proposed 2026 budget is expected to be posted on the county website after October 21.

According to the meeting notice, the Finance Committee will present a tentative version of the budget for the full Legislature to review, revise, and potentially adopt during the workshop. If approved, that tentative budget would then move forward for public input.

A formal public hearing on the budget is scheduled for November 20 at 6 p.m., also in the Legislative Chambers.

These annual workshops give lawmakers a chance to review department requests, adjust spending priorities, and discuss long-term financial planning before finalizing the budget later in the year.

To access the Zoom meeting, residents can visit the county’s official website or use the direct link provided in the meeting notice.
