Gas odor prompts evacuation at Gould Hotel in Seneca Falls

Guests were briefly evacuated from the Gould Hotel in Seneca Falls on Friday evening after firefighters responded to reports of a gas smell inside the building.

The call came in around 7:43 p.m. on September 19, while the Seneca Falls Fire Department was on standby for the Waterloo Fire Department. Multiple units were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, fire crews were assigned to strategic locations around State Street and Fall Street.

According to officials, the hotel staff provided a full list of guests and room assignments, confirming 54 guests were staying at the hotel at the time. Firefighters went room to room to ensure everyone was safely evacuated.

Due to the size of the structure and confirmed presence of gas, command requested an expedited response from NYSEG.

After the building was cleared, crews waited outside until NYSEG personnel arrived. Assistant Chief Daily and a NYSEG representative entered the building and identified the source of the gas. Once the issue was resolved, guests were allowed back inside.

All fire units cleared the scene by 9:00 p.m. No injuries were reported.
