Keeping a laser focus on the safest path is a core behavior for safely operating at the landfill. We occasionally alter traffic patterns at the landfill for safety or operational updates. As a result, we have to adapt and home in to become accustomed to the new traffic patterns.
The beginning of the school year also marks new pedestrian and traffic patterns on the local roads. More importantly, it signals additional children as pedestrians and bike riders in the mornings and afternoons. E-bikes and scooters are also more popular and pose additional potential hazards.
Safe driving behaviors to employ especially around school zones and times where children are present:
- Obey the school zone rules.
- Be mindful of school pick up and drop off times.
- Watch for bicycles darting between lanes.
- Never pass vehicles around school zones as children could be crossing through blind spots.
- Avoid blocking crosswalks creating a blind spot.
- Be ready to stop for school buses preparing to load or unload.
- SLOW DOWN
