Schumer pushes FEMA to fund flood fix

Federal money for a key flood project in Delaware County is in limbo — and Senator Chuck Schumer wants it back, according to WICZ. He’s urging FEMA to restore funding for the Sidney Culvert Project, which would help floodwaters drain faster and protect homes in the Village of Sidney.

The project got FEMA funding initially but hit delays. After Delaware County requested an 18-month extension in July, FEMA denied it.

Schumer sent a letter to Homeland Security calling the culvert work critical for safety. Sidney’s mayor says it could give residents peace of mind during future storms.
