Three hospitals in the Rochester Regional Health system have earned national awards for delivering top-tier care in heart failure, stroke, and diabetes treatment.
The recognition comes from the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® program, which honors hospitals that consistently follow the latest evidence-based care standards.
Rochester General Hospital led the way with Gold Plus awards for both heart failure and stroke care—marking 12 straight years of excellence in those categories.
Newark-Wayne Community Hospital and United Memorial Medical Center were also honored. Both earned Gold Plus for stroke care and Rural Stroke Gold—an award highlighting hospitals that excel in acute stroke treatment in rural communities.
United Memorial also received national recognition for its work in coronary artery disease care.
“These recognitions underscore our hospitals’ unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional care to the communities we serve, both rural and urban,” said Dr. Robert Mayo, Chief Medical Officer for Rochester Regional Health.
What these awards mean
The Get With The Guidelines® program gives hospitals tools to improve care and reduce patient readmissions. Awards are based on how well hospitals stick to recommended treatment protocols and patient outcomes.
Gold Plus and Rural Stroke Gold are the highest honors the program offers.
Rochester Regional Health operates nine hospitals and numerous healthcare facilities across Western New York and the Finger Lakes region. The system was also named one of America’s Greatest Workplaces in Healthcare by Newsweek in 2025.
