Man arrested with fake gun after Waterloo robbery

Police arrested a man after a robbery and extortion attempt in Waterloo ended with a traffic stop and a surprising stash of weapons.

Michael J. Wade, 43, of Savannah, was taken into custody on August 31 after officers responded to a reported robbery. According to the Waterloo Police Department, Wade and 45-year-old Karrie Maslyn of Seneca Falls conspired to intimidate a victim into handing over money.

Wade allegedly pulled what looked like a firearm during the confrontation. When police stopped the pair’s vehicle on Center Street in Seneca Falls, they found Wade carrying a fake gun, a taser, and a knife.

He was charged with multiple felonies and misdemeanors, including robbery, conspiracy, grand larceny, menacing, and criminal possession of a weapon. State Police later added a separate weapons charge tied to a prior conviction.

Maslyn, who was behind the wheel, was also arrested. She was found with the stolen money and charged with grand larceny, conspiracy, and driving with a suspended license. Like Wade, she has a long arrest record.

Both were booked into Seneca County Jail and are awaiting court appearances.
