A federal judge has approved a $246 million settlement between the Rochester Catholic Diocese and nearly 500 survivors of clergy sex abuse, according to Spectrum News 1.
It’s one of the largest payouts under New York’s Child Victims Act. Survivors called the moment “relief” after a grueling six-year fight for justice. Each will receive an average of about $500,000.
Bishop Salvatore Matano apologized in court, calling the deal a step toward healing.
