In what promises to be an emotional night of remembrance, the Yankees and Mets will play at Yankee Stadium on September 11, 2026, on the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
It will be just the second time the New York rivals meet on that date. The first came in 2021, when they honored the 20th anniversary with an emotional game at Citi Field.
The Mets hold a unique place in the city’s healing after 9/11, having hosted the first professional sporting event in New York 10 days after the attacks. Mike Piazza’s dramatic eighth-inning home run that night remains one of the most iconic moments in franchise history.
The Yankees will open the 2026 season on March 25 in San Francisco against the Giants, while the Mets will begin at Citi Field the following day, March 26, hosting the Pittsburgh Pirates.
