The New York Mets made a few roster moves ahead of Monday’s series opener in Philadelphia.
Right-handed reliever Reed Garrett was placed on the 15-day injured list with elbow inflammation, retroactive to August 23.
In corresponding moves, New York selected the contract of left-hander Jose Castillo from Triple-A Syracuse and transferred right-hander Frankie Montas to the 60-day IL. Montasâ shift is strictly procedural, as he has already been ruled out for the year with a torn UCL.
Garrett, 32, has been a key part of the Mets’ bullpen, recording a 3.61 ERA with 62 strikeouts over 52.1 innings. However, he has struggled recently, posting a 10.80 ERA over his past seven outings.
Castillo, 29, has bounced between Syracuse and the big-league club since arriving in a trade from the Arizona Diamondbacks in May. The southpaw has been effective in limited action, posting a 2.19 ERA across 14 games and 12.1 innings for New York.
