An old house on North Main Street in Canandaigua is being rebuilt into Ontario County’s first homeless shelter for families, according to the Finger Lakes Times.
Family Promise is leading the $5 million project, backed by private donations and a local foundation. Once complete, the seven-bedroom shelter will host up to 30 people and offer support like financial coaching and life skills training.
Local homelessness has surged 300% since 2020, making the shelter’s opening more urgent than ever.
