Auburn City Council is scheduled to consider the sale of a city-owned property and two infrastructure-related contract amendments at its meeting slated for 5 p.m. at City Hall. The agenda also includes a ceremonial police department pinning, an update on the city’s summer recreation program, and approval of meeting minutes from August 14.
Barber Street property sale
Councilors will vote on a land sale resolution, which would authorize the sale of 7-9 Barber Street, a two-family home acquired by the city through tax foreclosure in April 2024. AHA Development Corporation has submitted a purchase offer of $24,010 with plans to rehabilitate and resell the property. The sale is contingent on the buyer covering all title and closing costs, obtaining necessary permits within 30 days of closing, and accepting a quit claim deed from the city.
The revenue from the sale would be recorded in Account No. A99.2660, “Sale of Real Property.”
Update to Burgess Street culvert replacement
The council will consider resolution, authorizing a change order for construction support and inspection services on the Burgess Street Culvert Replacement Project. The proposed amendment would increase the contract with Prudent Engineering LLP by $105,984.56, bringing the total to $220,924.48.
The additional services cover construction phase support and inspection. According to the city engineer’s memorandum, 90% of the added cost is eligible for FEMA reimbursement under the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program, with the remaining 10% to be reimbursed through the New York State Department of Transportation’s CHIPS/State Touring Routes funding.
North Street paving expansion
Councilors will also vote on a resolution, which proposes a change to the 2025 Road Improvement Program contract with Northern Asphalt LLC. The change would increase the contract by $750,000, from $784,405 to $1,534,405, to allow for resurfacing of North Street from Arterial West to the city line.
The Engineering Department cited high traffic volume, poor pavement conditions, pending future state reconstruction funding, and coordination with other nearby projects as reasons for the immediate work. All expenses are eligible for reimbursement through FY 2025–26 CHIPS/STR funding.
Other Agenda Items
- A pinning ceremony for members of the Auburn Police Department will be conducted by Mayor Jimmy Giannettino.
- Brian Rhodes and Meg Gremli will present a staff update on the city’s summer recreation program.
The session is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at Memorial City Hall and will be livestreamed at auburnny.gov/Channel-A.
