Court reinstates MacBride’s Truth and Justice ballot line

Jason MacBride is officially back on the November ballot after a judge reversed an earlier ruling that had tossed out his independent nominating petition due to missing evidence.

The Ontario County Supreme Court granted MacBride’s motion to reargue after discovering a technical error caused the court to review incomplete copies of his signature-validating affidavits. Those affidavits were key to proving he had enough valid signatures to qualify for the Truth and Justice ballot line.

The court originally found MacBride was short on signatures, but the new review determined that dozens of previously discounted signatures were in fact valid. With those added back in, his petition cleared the legal threshold.

Neither William Hastings—the petitioner who brought the challenge—nor the Ontario County Board of Elections opposed the motion to reargue.

This marks MacBride’s second successful court defense this election season. He previously fended off a separate challenge to his appearance on the Republican primary ballot. In both cases, MacBride represented himself.

With the Truth and Justice line restored, MacBride will now appear on the November ballot as both a Republican and an independent candidate for Ontario County District Attorney.
