New Auburn homeless shelter expected by 2027

Auburn’s long-planned 80-bed homeless shelter could open by fall 2027—if state funding comes through, according to The Citizen.

The Rescue Mission has applied for critical aid from New York’s Homeless Housing Assistance Program, with a decision expected in October. Cayuga County has already committed $1 million in federal funding.

The new site would replace a 16-bed shelter and add transitional housing, though some neighbors are appealing a court ruling that cleared the project.
