An 18-year-old from Newark is facing DWI charges after deputies say he crashed a car into a tree, fled the scene, and was later found with the vehicle on fire.
Ontario County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Peter Mastowski late Tuesday night in the Town of Phelps.
Deputies responded around 11:47 p.m. to State Route 88, where they found a 2003 Honda Civic in the southbound lane and on fire. Investigators say the car had veered off the road, gone through a yard on Gardner Road, and hit a tree before the driver left without reporting the crash.
Mastowski was arrested at the scene for driving while intoxicated. He was issued several traffic tickets and released to a sober third party.
He’s scheduled to appear in Phelps Town Court at a later date.
