Debate over Micron environmental review timeline

The 45-day public comment period for Micron’s 20,000-page Draft Environmental Impact Statement has ended, Spectrum News reports, but some advocacy groups say it wasn’t enough time. They had pushed for an extension, citing concerns like chemical contamination, wetland loss, and infrastructure impacts.

Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon noted the window was already extended from 30 days and included three in-person hearings. He said only hundreds of comments were submitted, not thousands, but all must be addressed in the final report.

The Final Environmental Impact Statement is due in October, with Micron’s Clay campus construction slated to start in November. Advocates hope submitted feedback will lead to project changes.
