73 acres protected in Cayuga Lake watershed

The Finger Lakes Land Trust has secured 73 acres of farmland in Ulysses through a conservation easement. Donated in 2023 by local resident Sandy Hill, the property includes woodlands and a stream feeding Cayuga Lake, with restrictions to preserve agriculture and limit development.

Proceeds from its sale will establish the Carman and Sandra B. Hill Fund, supporting internships in land and water conservation. Hill said the gift honors her late husband and aims to protect farmland and water quality amid climate change concerns.

FLLT President Andrew Zepp called the donation a boost for both conservation and education. The group has now protected over 34,000 acres in the Finger Lakes region through easements, preserves, and partnerships with local communities.
