Congresswoman Elise Stefanik introduced a House resolution Tuesday condemning the July 28 mass shooting in Midtown Manhattan and honoring the victims and responding officers from the New York City Police Department.
The attack claimed the lives of three civilians and NYPD officer Didarul Islam. The resolution praises Islam’s heroism and the actions of fellow officer Aland Etienne in neutralizing the shooter before further harm could be done.
“I am proud to lead this House Resolution to condemn the heinous attack on innocent victims… where a deranged shooter would have taken more lives if it were not for the heroism of the NYPD,” said Stefanik. “Anti-police policies should have no place in our great state. God Bless our First Responders and heroes in blue.”
The resolution outlines four key actions:
- Condemning the act of violence.
- Honoring the lives lost, including Officer Islam.
- Praising the NYPD for its response.
- Opposing divisive rhetoric against law enforcement.
Stefanik urged lawmakers to reaffirm their support for police at all levels of government.
