911 dispatcher honors medics who saved her life

A Cayuga County 911 dispatcher is crediting two Auburn City Ambulance staff members with saving her life after a March heart attack, according to The Citizen.

Shelly Delfavero woke with intense chest pain and recognized she was having a heart attack. Her daughter called 911, and paramedic Dan Tomasino and driver Dan Cooper arrived within minutes.

Delfavero’s heart stopped multiple times during the icy drive to the hospital, requiring defibrillation. She later had nine stents placed.

On July 18, Delfavero presented the pair with a commemorative coin in gratitude. She said their fast response made the difference between life and death.
