Ledyard man charged with falsely reporting vehicle theft

A Cayuga County man is facing a misdemeanor charge after deputies say he falsely claimed a vehicle had been stolen in the town of Sempronius last week.

According to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, 38-year-old Jordan T. Hoyt of Ledyard was arrested on July 28 after deputies determined he knowingly made a false report to 911. He was charged with third-degree falsely reporting an incident, a Class A misdemeanor.

Deputies responded to the call at 10:09 a.m. and quickly discovered that the alleged larceny had not occurred. Hoyt was taken into custody 26 minutes later, processed at the sheriff’s office, and released with an appearance ticket.

He is scheduled to appear in Sempronius Town Court on August 6 at 6:00 p.m.
