Two men face felony indictments after separate shootings rocked the City of Auburn on July 26, including one incident that left a victim dead.
Davon Dixon, 35, of Brooklyn, has been indicted for second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon following a fatal shooting on Chapman Avenue. The Cayuga County Grand Jury alleges that Dixon fired multiple shots with a loaded firearm around 10 p.m., intending to cause death. He was taken into custody immediately by the Auburn Police Department GIVE Unit.
Dixon remains in the Cayuga County Jail without bail and could face up to 40 years to life in prison if convicted. His arraignment before County Court is pending.
In a separate incident that same day, Leon Shorter, 55, of Syracuse, was indicted on two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Prosecutors say Shorter illegally carried a loaded handgun near State Street and Perrine Street. He is legally prohibited from possessing a firearm in New York.
Shorter was arrested following an investigation by Auburn police and is being held in Cayuga County Jail pending arraignment. He faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted. Authorities noted that additional charges are still under review.
Both cases are being prosecuted by District Attorney Brittany Grome Antonacci and Special Counsel Mark Moody.
