Canadians’ views of U.S. hit historic low under Trump

Canadian approval of the U.S. and President Donald Trump has plunged to near-record lows, according to Pew Research Center. Just 34% view the U.S. favorably—matching levels from Trump’s first term—and 59% now consider America Canada’s top threat.

Only 22% of Canadians trust Trump on world affairs, and many describe him as arrogant and dangerous. His return to power and new tariffs have fueled economic and security concerns. Still, over half of Canadians see the U.S. as the world’s top economy, and most prefer strong U.S. trade ties over those with China.

Perceptions vary by ideology, with right-leaning Canadians more likely to favor the U.S., but overall sentiment has sharply declined.
