A severe staffing shortage has forced Fishers Fire District in Ontario County to halt 24/7 operations at one of its stations, according to WHAM. The cutback at Station One follows weeks of resignations as uncertainty over the department’s potential dissolution grows.
Assistant Chief Michael Koch said many firefighters left to secure other employment, leaving too few staff to safely operate trucks daily. The district has not been included in talks about future fire coverage should it dissolve.
Station Two remains fully operational, but leaders warn neighboring departments can’t match the district’s current service level. A dissolution vote is expected next month.
