A chicken barbecue benefit is being organized to support the family of Sam Nordquist, a 24-year-old Minnesotan who was killed in Canandaigua in February, according to the Democrat and Chronicle. Seven people are charged in the case and await trial.
Nordquist’s family faces mounting travel costs as they prepare to attend the trial, more than 1,000 miles from home. Local resident Rebecca Mearns, now close with the family, is leading the effort to ease their burden.
The benefit will be held August 10 in Geneva, with proceeds helping cover airfare, lodging, and other trial-related expenses for the grieving family.
