Ontario County residents now have a high-tech tool to make recycling easier, thanks to a new Alexa app launched by the county’s Department of Sustainability & Solid Waste Management.
The “Ontario County Recycles” skill is now available for Amazon Alexa devices and smartphones, offering quick answers on how to dispose of more than 275 different items — from paint to tires — and providing updates on upcoming special collection events.
“We are excited to launch the new Ontario County Recycles skill for the Alexa app,” said Carla Jordan, the department’s director. “We understand that our residents want to do the right thing, and sometimes can feel overwhelmed when trying to decide if something can be recycled or how to safely dispose of things like batteries or paint.”
The voice-activated feature supports the county’s broader goals to reduce waste, improve recycling habits, and educate residents about proper disposal. Users can activate the tool by enabling the skill on their Alexa device or app and saying, “Alexa, open Ontario County Recycles.”
The app is part of Ontario County’s ongoing effort to support sustainable practices among residents, businesses, and municipalities.
