A city man has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder following a deadly shooting Saturday night near the Oak Creek Town Homes on Chapman Avenue, according to a media release from the Auburn Police Department.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire around 9:38 p.m. on July 26, where they discovered one man armed with a handgun. Police say the suspect threw the weapon to the ground when ordered and was taken into custody. A second man was found nearby with multiple gunshot wounds.
Officers rendered aid until emergency responders arrived. The victim was transported to Auburn Community Hospital, where he later died. His identity has not been released pending family notifications.
The suspect was identified as 35-year-old Davon M. Dixon of 179 Cottage Street. He faces charges of second-degree murder, a class A1 felony, and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class C felony.
Authorities say the incident occurred during a large block-style party in the Oak Creek area. Multiple law enforcement agencies—including the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office, Sheriff’s Office, State Police, and Coroner’s Office—are assisting due to the size of the crowd and ongoing investigation.
