Tom Knipe named new head of county transportation council

Longtime director Fernando de Aragón is retiring from the Ithaca-Tompkins County Transportation Council, and city economic development official Tom Knipe will take over in September, according to The Ithaca Voice. de Aragón led the agency for 27 years, overseeing major transportation initiatives like Ithaca Carshare and bike infrastructure expansion.

Knipe brings deep local experience, having served as deputy director for Ithaca’s economic development and as co-founder of Bike Walk Tompkins. He previously directed the county’s tourism program.

de Aragón plans to remain active in advocating for diverse transportation options, while Knipe aims to build on that legacy.
