A woman from Auburn was arrested and charged with felony drug possession after a traffic stop early Thursday morning uncovered cocaine base and drug paraphernalia, according to the Auburn Police Department.
Jessica Simmonds was pulled over on State Street around 3:11 a.m. on July 17. Police say she was driving without insurance and on a suspended license. During the stop, officers discovered multiple white substances, drug paraphernalia, a digital scale, and a quantity of cash inside the vehicle.
Field tests later confirmed the substances were cocaine base, commonly known as crack cocaine. The drugs weighed a total of 31.8 grams.
Simmonds faces multiple charges, including two felony counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, along with misdemeanor and infraction-level traffic violations. She was processed and taken to the Cayuga County Jail pending arraignment.
Police also arrested a passenger in the vehicle, Leigh Rusin, after learning he had an active warrant from Cayuga County Court. He was taken into custody without incident.
