Bicyclist injured after vehicle strikes her in state park

A 66-year-old woman was injured Tuesday morning when a vehicle struck her while she was biking through Seneca Lake State Park, the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies responded around 8:50 a.m. on July 15 and provided aid to Gale McClellan of Bloomfield until emergency crews arrived. She was later transported to Geneva General Hospital for treatment.

According to investigators, McClellan was traveling west through the park and began turning left when 83-year-old John Gifford of Waterloo failed to stop at a posted stop sign and struck her. Gifford was issued a traffic ticket for failure to stop.

North Seneca Ambulance and the Border City Fire Department assisted at the scene.
