Cayuga County lawmakers are considering a major change to how hotel tax revenue is split, according to The Citizen.
A proposed amendment would reduce the tourism office’s share from 95% to 75%, redirecting 20%—about $270,000 annually—to county-run tourism-related services like Emerson Park and the agricultural museum. Officials say this would help ease budget pressure without reducing total tourism investment.
If approved, the change would also expand the tax to include short-term rentals. A public hearing may be scheduled for August following a July 22 vote.
