The Canandaigua Police Department is launching a strict enforcement campaign to stop illegal swimming in restricted areas around Kershaw Park, Lakefront Park, and the City Pier.
The announcement comes after repeated incidents of swimmers ignoring posted rules and lifeguard warnings. Police say there have been several “close calls” involving swimmers and boats—prompting concern for public safety.
Violators caught swimming in prohibited areas face fines of up to $250 under Canandaigua City Code 519-16.
Authorities are urging residents and visitors to use the designated swimming area at the Kershaw Park Bath House, which is open to the public at no cost this year.
“Have a safe summer!” the department stated in its announcement.
