The iconic Sentry Bridge at Watkins Glen State Park officially closed July 7 for a major $7.5 million safety upgrade, according to officials. Built in 1908, the bridge will be replaced after inspectors flagged unstable rock beneath its foundation.
A temporary fix was installed in 2022, but now a permanent stainless steel bridge will be built, preserving the original arch while anchoring it securely. Construction is expected to last a year, with a reopening planned by July 4, 2026.
While some trails will be closed during the project, park access—including the pool, gift shop, and shuttle—will remain available throughout.
