GameStop customers may be eligible for a payout or store credit through a $4.5 million class action settlement stemming from alleged privacy violations involving Facebook.
Why is GameStop paying $4.5 million?
The settlement resolves claims that GameStop improperly disclosed customer data—specifically, video game purchase information—to Facebook via the Facebook Tracking Pixel without proper consent. The plaintiffs allege this violates the Video Privacy Protection Act.
GameStop denies any wrongdoing but agreed to the settlement “to avoid uncertainties and expenses associated with continuing the case,” according to the official settlement site.
Who qualifies for the GameStop settlement?
You may be eligible for a portion of the $4.5 million settlement if all of the following apply:
- You purchased a video game from the GameStop website between August 18, 2020, and April 17, 2025.
- You were an active Facebook user during that time.
- Your Facebook profile was public and used your real name.
What can claimants receive?
Eligible participants can receive:
- Up to $5 in cash (via Zelle, PayPal, or Venmo), or
- Up to $10 in GameStop store credit
The exact amount depends on how many valid claims are submitted.
How do you file a claim?
There are two ways to file:
- Online at gamestopvppasettlement.com/Home/SubmitClaim using the unique ID from an email notice.
- By mail, using a printed claim form from the settlement website.
Consumers can also opt out of or object to the settlement.
What’s the deadline?
Claimants must submit all claims by August 15, 2025, when the court will also hold the final approval hearing. If the court approves the settlement and no appeals delay the process, the settlement administrators will distribute payments or vouchers within 45 days of that approval.
What happens next?
If you selected the cash option, the settlement administrators will send your payment through your chosen method—Zelle, PayPal, or Venmo. If you opted for store credit, they will deposit vouchers into your GameStop account or issue them once you create one. These vouchers will expire one year after issuance.
